Food waste: learn how to reduce it once and for all!

Um study made recently by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) revealed that, in the country, a family wastes an average of 128 kilos of food per year. The waste of food, in a single residence, exceeds the value of one thousand reais per year, making it very clear that there is something wrong with our consumer culture.

The numbers, which are already frightening, represent only what is wasted inside the house. That is, they do not understand what is thrown away in restaurants, hotels and commercial establishments - otherwise, they would be even greater. In view of these data, there is no doubt: it is necessary to take action to change this scenario.

Main foods thrown away

According to the study, the most wasted products are exactly those that are part of people's daily lives. At the top of the list is rice, weighing more than 28 kilos per year, followed by meat (25 kg), beans (20 kg) and chicken (19 kg).

All this household waste can be avoided with a few simple changes in consumption habits. It is possible, for example, to reduce the amount of food prepared at meals and to cook only what is necessary. After all, it is time to recognize that the idea of “better left than missing” is very wrong!

Why not take a look at the amount of food consumed during lunch and think about the dishes of the next few days from that point of view? Do we really need to choose between leftover and missing or can we cook more appropriately for our routine? Remember: this is good for your pocket and for the planet!

Store to reduce food waste

Even if you change your habits at home, it is likely that one meal or another will end up with leftovers. Therefore, if the objective is to reduce food waste as much as possible, it is also essential to invest in efficient forms of conservation.

Plastic film is one of the most used products to protect the food that needs to be taken to the refrigerator. Except that among the various options on the market, you have to choose the one that really guarantees adequate food protection. Alpfilm Protect, for example, is the best option, because it has an antibacterial shield that reduces the risk of contamination by 99,96%, keeping meals for much longer.

In addition, when purchasing any Alpfilm combo, you contribute doubly to the cause. This is because, for each combo purchased, half a kilo of food is donated to those who need it through the NGO food Bank

So, here's the tip: reducing food waste depends on each person rethinking their attitudes, acting more consciously and counting on great allies, such as Alpfilm!
