It is perfectly understandable that you, and many others, have this fear. After all, we are talking about a permanent change in the body.

Art worshiped since Egypt, the tattoo it consists of a subcutaneous application of pigments made through needles. So, this technique causes an injury to the dermis, which is a tissue below the most superficial layer of the skin, requiring a series of precautions to avoid the risk of infection and, also, to guarantee the quality of the design.

The first good news is that this procedure is no longer irreversible. So, if you feel regret or want to change the art, it is possible to do the removal with a laser method. The second is that we have prepared a text with all the necessary information so that this experience is safe and correct, and its tattoo be a success!

1) Be convinced

It is essential to be sure about the type and size of the design, as well as the part of the body that will be tattooed. So be careful with fads. Try to understand well what you really like and what doesn't match your personality so much.

For that, you can answer some questions: Why do I want to do this tattoo? If it has a meaning, would you like to remember it constantly? Am I a person who dislikes things easily?

It is also recommended to give preference to a tattoo artist who has your style. So do a detailed search and get to know his portfolio well. This way, you will know if the artist's trait matches or not the design chosen by you.

2) Know your skin

As we have already said, the tattoo is an application of paint that causes trauma to the dermis, requiring healing. So it is very important to know what your skin type is and how it reacts in these circumstances, to avoid delicate situations.

That way, experts recommend that you go to a dermatologist and do a check-up before. This is because art can cover signs of skin cancer, such as spots or lesions. And your skin may be prone to the formation of keloids, which is an abnormal growth of tissue during healing, and the procedure is not recommended.

3) Hire a good professional

It is important to seek references from the tattoo artist, for example, getting to know some of his clients. And be wary if the professional offers services at prices well below average. If he doesn’t do quality work, the complications of tattoo can be much more severe than an imperfect design - for example, a cross infection.

So, always pay a visit before the procedure, to check if the artist and the studio have all the certifications required by law and if the hygiene conditions of the place are adequate. And never (never really!) Accept the use of needles and other non-sterile or non-disposable materials.

4) Use plastic film

Now that you've chosen the art and made the tattoo with a quality professional, it is necessary to take some care in order to have a good healing process and, consequently, the design remains in original conditions and without complications.

Therefore, immediately after the procedure, it is essential that the artist uses plastic film in his tattoo, involving the whole drawing, and that you make the change according to his orientation. To know more, read our story dedicated only to that subject!

5) Sanitize well

The dressing after the tattoo it is essential, but it does not dispense with hygiene. Therefore, it is necessary that, after 3 hours, you wash the tattooed area with running water and antiseptic or neutral soap. Soon after, make a new dressing.

And an important detail: loofahs and soaps with a very strong smell should be avoided. This is because these elements can irritate the skin, making it easier for allergies or other reactions to hinder the recovery of the tattooed area.

6) Protect from the sun

Dermatologists indicate that, for at least a month, the tattooed skin does not receive sunlight directly. So, no going to the beach or the club after the studio. But in addition, on a daily basis, we are in contact with the sun even if unintentionally.

So what can you do in that case? Simple: use a good quality sunscreen in tattoo. And, preferably, factor 50.

7) Take care of the food

This tip is essential for the period before and after the tattoo. This is because, throughout the process, you need to be well fed and hydrated in order to avoid a drop in pressure or even fainting. Believe me, this is more common than you think!

In addition, it is important to avoid high-fat foods, such as pork and yellow cheeses, after tattoo. This type of food causes the healing to be altered, which can compromise the quality of the design.

8) Don't scratch or peel

As with any wound, the tattoo it causes an inflammatory process: the nerve terminals are stimulated and we feel the pain, which increases according to the severity. As it heals, the pain also decreases, until it becomes an itch. Part of this process is also the formation of a peel at the wound site.

This itch is an indication that the place is deflating, but it causes discomfort. That is where the danger lies. If you scratch it, you can unintentionally remove the peel, slowing down the healing process. And you still run the risk of causing an infection, because your hands, no matter how clean they are, can carry harmful bacteria to the wound.

9) Avoid tight clothes

Even under normal conditions, rubbing the skin with some objects can be irritating and harmful. And one of those very common frictions is that caused by wearing tight clothes. So imagine this situation right after you make a tattoo!

Therefore, give preference to larger pieces in this period. Thus, the skin can breathe more easily, contributing to a good healing process.

10) Use healing

Healing is a natural process of the skin, but that does not mean that some care is not necessary. To make it faster and, consequently, to stop itching and other discomfort caused by the wound, you can use a healing ointment.

But no self-medication! It is important that the product is prescribed by a dermatologist. And remember to pay attention to the expiration date of the ointment, as well as to leave the skin clean before applying it in the tattoo.
