6 tips to keep the refrigerator clean and organized

Even with a very hectic routine, like yours, is it possible to clean your home appliances as often as desired? Can you keep the refrigerator clean and organized? Hardly, isn't it? And this is also the reality for thousands of people, who, daily, need to handle a list of tasks in different areas of life, such as work, marriage, studies, children and, of course, themselves.

And in the kitchen, it gets even more complicated. After all, they are devices that demand more care because they are in contact with residues that can contaminate food. In addition, the storage of groceries must be done properly, to avoid early deterioration, making this task even more tiring. But, with the tips we have prepared in this article, you will reconcile all of this in a very practical and fast way!

# 1 - Clean the refrigerator monthly

To begin, you need to learn how to properly clean your refrigerator. And for that, you only need a kitchen sponge, neutral detergent (or soap), clean cloths and water. The process is very simple and must be done at least once a month.

First, remove all removable parts from your refrigerator, such as shelves and drawers, and wash them under running water, using a sponge and detergent or mild soap. Then clean the inside, using the sponge moistened with water and the detergent or soap again. Finally, remove all detergent or soap from the surface with a damp cloth and dry it with a dry cloth.

# 2 - Line the compartments to keep the refrigerator clean

This is an essential part of ensuring that your refrigerator stays clean longer. To do this, cover the shelves with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place them in the bottom of the drawer that stores fruits and vegetables.

This way, you prevent these surfaces from coming into contact with food residues, which can stick together if not quickly removed. But remember to change the plastic film or aluminum foil if it gets too dirty.

# 3 - Check the validity of food

Every month, when cleaning the refrigerator, check the expiration date and the state of conservation of the food. Expired or damaged products must be properly disposed of. Thus, in addition to reducing energy expenditure on food that will not be used, you prevent food in good condition from being contaminated.

# 4 - Store food in the appropriate places

To keep the refrigerator organized and increase the shelf life, it is important to store food in the appropriate rooms, according to their characteristics:

  • Lower drawer

This is the place that receives less refrigeration and, therefore, is the most suitable for storing fruits and vegetables. This is because these foods are not very resistant to very low temperatures.

  • Shelving

Reserve this part to store products that do not require maximum refrigeration (such as milk, juices, sweets and eggs), placing food that is more easily perishable on the upper shelves.

  • Top drawer

This space is suitable for groceries that require high refrigeration, but without freezing. So it is ideal for storing cold cuts, dairy products and meats that will be defrosted.

  • Freezer

In this location, store foods that will be frozen, such as meats and pre-made dishes.

# 5 - Use closed containers

When storing prepared food or leftovers, always use sealed containers. To do this, choose pots and containers with lids. If not, a valuable tip is to cover the containers with quality plastic film. So, in addition to preventing the proliferation of fungi, you prevent bad odors from taking over your refrigerator.

# 6 - Pack the meats correctly

In some situations, meats release a broth, which can drain and dirty the rest of the refrigerator, producing a bad smell. So, make sure that the meats are well packaged. And for that, you can store them in Zip Lock bags, which, in addition to preventing leakage, will keep them for even longer.
