Alpfilm in the kitchen! Come learn a new technique to keep herbs and spices longer in the freezer!

It is not uncommon to see that packet of spices purchased recently begin to turn dark before we have a chance to fully utilize them. This with ingredients like coriander, basil, rosemary and many others.

There are several ways to store plants in the refrigerator to reduce food waste in the kitchen. So, follow the tutorial on how to freeze herbs and spices, with a little help from Alpfilm, to make the most of the nutrients in condiments!

freezing parsley

Detach the leaves from the stalk and store the portions you usually use in Alpfilm perforated bags. Place these bags inside an Alpfilm Ziplock bag (available in two sizes), all together, and seal it.

They last for three to four months and you can note the freeze date on the Alpfilm Ziplock bag itself. When ready to use, before opening the perforated bag with the leaves, pass a roll over it and knead it with your hands: the parsley comes out all chopped, without giving any trouble.

Freezing fresh chives, marjoram, sage, thyme, basil, mint, bay leaf, oregano, rosemary and coriander

For these seasonings, we have a basic process that can be used for everyone. Simply chop the leaves, separate into Alpfilm Ziplocks in small portions and freeze.

Freezing Onion and Garlic

Cut the onion into cubes, petals or rings. Spread these pieces on a baking sheet, cover with Alpfilm Protect plastic wrap and place in the freezer. The next day, pack the portions in Alpfilm Easy Strip freezer bags, or Alpfilm Ziplock, and store back in the freezer.

To freeze garlic, the process is the same. However, it should be mashed rather than chopped. Garlic can be frozen in ice cube trays with salt.

Freezing Spices with Oil or Butter

For this freezing, it is essential that the herbs are very firm and sanitized.

Take ice cube trays and fill halfway with the chopped seasoning. Top with olive oil or very soft butter and cover the mold with Alpfilm Protect plastic wrap.

If you want to release the molds, you can remove the frozen seasoning cubes and store them in a plastic pot, and return them to the freezer.
